by Sherman Alexie

The narrator of this short novel is Zits, a half Native American, half Irish orphan who travels back through time by inhabiting the bodies of others. From the outset the story has the feel of teenage fiction, but don't let that put you off. Fast-paced, witty and profane, there are moments of laugh-out-loud humour and parts that are very touching. A little book that punches above its weight.

I have returned to my body. And my ugly face. And my anger. And my loneliness.
And then I think, maybe I never left my body at all. Maybe I never left this bank. Maybe I've been standing here for hours, minutes, seconds, trying to decide what I should do.
Do I pull out my guns and shoot all these people? Do I shoot that little boy over there with his mother?
