A Light Song of Light by Kei Miller

A Light Song of Light

Kei Miller

I do enjoy reading poetry but it has been a while since I have been so moved and entranced by a modern poet as I have been by Kei Miller. The title poem is an outstanding piece of work, lyrical, melodic with the collective memory of Jamica across the ages resounding throughout. Really, stop what you are doing and read this anthology now.

Extract
A light song of light is not understood completely

not in the moment it is sung

and maybe not for months after.

But it sings with a faith common

in those who never lost their accents

who talk their talk knowing, tsst

you may notc atch everything but chu -

you will catch enough.

then something wrong with your ears -

they been tuned to de wrong frequency.
