The She-Devil in the Mirror

Horacio Castellanos Moya

A woman is murdered in front of her children – who knows why or by whom? I loved the originality, pace, suspense and black humour of this shocking tale and learned a lot about life in post civil-war San Salvador through the non-stop gossip of ‘best friend’ Laura.

If Olga Maria hadn’t been such a good friend, I’d have driven straight to the cemetery and not followed the hearse – that’s what I usually do when it isn’t someone this close. Hand me that Miguel Bose cassette. He’s so hot. I love him. Finally the air conditioning is starting to work. I don’t know why that hearse is going so slowly. It’s practically standing still. What’s going on?
