The Origin of Violence

by Fabrice Humbert

No matter where his research leads him, no matter how much he discovers, our narrator can't escape the cold, clammy mist of the past; leading us ever deeper into a chilling swamp of family history. It's like watching a car-crash, horrified but unable to look away - captivating and disturbing in equal parts.

Fear and violence have haunted me forever. I have lived in these shadows. I have always feared that I would be dragged away, bound, flayed like a dangerous animal. In endless nightmares I have glimpsed the jaws of wolves. Bright eyes glittered in the bedroom of my childhood.
