The First Thing You See by Grégoire Delacourt

The First Thing You See

Grégoire Delacourt

Would it be wonderful to look like a young Hollywood star? This tender, wryly funny, sometimes sad look at the nature of appearance argues not always!
I loved this book and only hope that if it is filmed the very French ending is NOT subjected to the Hollywood treatment.

Extract
Unfortunately there isn't a musical score to accompany life as there is in films, only noises, sounds, words, coffee machines going 'cling', the castors on hospital trolleys gong 'rrr-pft-rrr-pft', and tears, sometimes cries reminding you that this is all horribly real ....
Parallels
  • A Very Long Engagement by Sebastien Japrisot
  • The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
