Soul Cage

Not only does 'Soul Cage' provide a fascinatingly convoluted murder mystery, but it delivers a really interesting insight into Japanese culture via the workings of the police force, including its view on female detective inspectors.
My first Japanese police procedural and, most certainly, it won't be my last.


The atmosphere at that night's task force meeting was electric. Reiko dropped the first bombshell.
'To sum up, then, we think it a very real possibility that the victim in this case - the man whom we believed to be Kenichi Takaoka - is not Kenichi Takaokaafter all ....'
