Baby: Poems on Pregnancy, Birth and Babies

by Gillian Ferguson

Baby is a very matter of fact look at pregnancy, birth and babies. The poems can evoke maternal instincts you might not even have known you had, or scare the living daylights out of you. A funny and totally unselfconscious account of the awesomeness of childbirth, whether you're pregnant, a mother, or neither.

Imagine shitting a football, my earthly friend says, but
it's not pain I mind, It's being 'torn', which makes you
sound like paper, but every woman knows her skin,
prim, pursed sphincter, would never tear clean, but
like a green branch, very messy.
