by Paul Muldoon

A demanding read, but extremely worthwhile. Poems come in all shapes and sizes and use strict forms as well as free verse. Cultural references range from rock music to Greek myth. You never know where a Muldoon poem will take you, but finding out is a beautiful experience.

I was standing in for myself, my own stunt double,
in a scene where I was meant to be a double

or maybe even a triple back-somersault
off the bed. In one hand she held a glass of Meursault,

in the other something akin to a Consulate.
