Wake Up by Tim Pears

Wake Up

Tim Pears

We are told John's life story as he is driving continuously around the ring road, delaying going into work. His is an interesting story, full of contradictions, half truths and deceit. It keeps you guessing until the end and is definitely an indictment of genetic engineering!

Will they say that I am implicated?

There were four people in the control group. Two of them are fine. They had diarrhoea, vomiting, some sweat and shakes, but now they're recovered. The two unfortunate specimens who died were ill-chosen: one too young, the other too old. Their selection by the scientists in the field was irresponsible, not to say reckless. It may be that Simon and I should inform some authority of the scientists' error before they return. Yes, this may well be the thing to do.
