If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things

by Jon McGregor

When reading this book you can't help but feel as though you are looking through an old photo album. The story evokes images of streets you once lived in where each house has its own story to tell and where the mundane and everyday have their own significance in people's lives. It's a poetic and beautifully written book that will leave you with just a little whiff of nostalgia.

Upstairs at number twenty, in the kitchen, the old man is looking for his hat, he's talking over his shoulder to his wife, he's saying I'm sure I left it on the side have you seen it, he can't hear her reply so he raises his voice, calling through to wherever she is, the bedroom, the bathroom.
