Oh, Play That Thing by Roddy Doyle

Oh, Play That Thing

Roddy Doyle

Thoroughly thrilling and intriguing account of life on the run in the America of the 20s and 30s - though I found the section recounting Henry's adventures with Louis Armstrong less convincing. This is a sequel to A Star called Henry.

Extract
It was too early for stars but I knew that my voice, steered by the glass and concrete, would meet them as they came out later on. I opened the door and, right hand gripping the running board, I hung out over the street as the car turned onto Park Avenue.

-My name is Henry Smart!
