The Blood of Flowers

by Anita Amirrezvani

This story, woven with many twists and turns, is inspirational. Set in ancient Iran, it tells of a poor young woman's struggle to overcome her misfortunes through her passion for making Persian rugs. Along the way she learns some valuable lessons from her elders, not least how to please her rich lover, whilst trying to uncover her true destiny.

Nearby another dye maker was hard at work over his boiling pots. He poured in a bag of dried yellow larspur flowers which danced their way into the liquid and whirled into a bright streak of yellow. I watched him drop in the skeins of white wool. They licked up the shade, transforming into the colour of sunshine.
