Lost Bodies by Francois Gantheret

Lost Bodies

Francois Gantheret

A tragic story of love and betrayal set in an unnamed repressive North African country with beautiful descriptions of the desert setting. Well told intrigue and devious plots combine to create a slow burning fuse of revelation; the characters are both strong and resourceful as they battle against relentless prison brutality. A very short novel but one in which every word matters.

Suddenly everything was eclipsed, the sky and the stars and the rocks and this man who had just stopped speaking. The night came flooding back and left in its place still more blackness, absolute blackness and nothing else, both within and around her. One thought alone in the silent howling of the world, those words as red as fire, as red as blood, calmly repeating themselves: Elijah is dead.
