Now You See Him

by Eli Gottlieb

I found this an easy read despite the bleak content of the story which looks at lives which have been torn apart by secrets, lies and to some extent complacency. I was helped along by the poetic nature of the language which portrays the breakdown of relationships and the soul searching of its main character after the loss of his close childhood friend.

The seasons passed, the leaves fell and in miraculous
fits, in tantrums of green, they appeared again, and every
day, Rob climbed to his desk like an exhausted swimmer
battling the outgoing tide to the beach, and there tried
to concentrate. Something, he reported to Mac, was off.
