Ghost Moth

by Michele Forbes

An age old dilemma, a decent fiance versus an exciting lover. An incident in the sea prompts these memories to resurface for Katherine twenty years on, while in Belfast troubles start to simmer. The results of her choice allow secrets to worm their way into the heart of her family but I missed the signals. A well known theme, but so beautifully written with erotic passages and lovingly observed details of family life that moved me.

In time the garden became theirs and the grass grew back without George's having to sow one single seed. It gracefully became a verdant cradle for their young children Maureen and Elizabeth, where on summer afternoons they would sometimes be found among the long and tender new blades curled, baby-fleshed asleep, like soft blackberries having fallen from the bush.
