Zipper Mouth by Laurie Weeks

Zipper Mouth

Laurie Weeks

A funny, original, annoying and disconcertingly nonlinear ramble by a girl who is always hungover, takes loads of drugs, bares her soul in letters to film stars and poets, dead or alive, and has a crush on her straight best friend. Short but exhausting!

Extract
After the first rushes of ecstatic conversation, Jane and I wandered from room to room, speaking occasionally in undertones. We were specters facing each other through soundproof glass, semaphoring unintelligibly. Langorously we’d drape ourselves across the bed, a chair. Puking occurred in slow motion. She may as well have kicked me in the teeth when she lay down with her feet on the pillow next to my face, her head away down there as far away from my mouth as she could get, and this cruelty made me crazy with love.
