Several Deceptions

Jane Stevenson

I must admit that I don't usually go for short stories but these four novellas, linked by the theme of deception, are very readable and will keep you hooked until the end. My only criticism is that at times these well-crafted stories are a little over-written.

Extract
I was feeling no more forgiving by the time the plane decanted us in the city of John Calvin. In due course, we met up with the agent, took delivery of the keys, and established ourselves in a commodious villa out towards Cologny with an excellent view of Lac Leman. Then, in the course of our first reconnaitre of our environment, I provided myself with some Swiss stamps from the Hotel des Postes and wrote a curt note to Dora, dispensing with her services from the end of the month.
