As She Climbed Across the Table by Jonathan Lethem

As She Climbed Across the Table

Jonathan Lethem

A bit of a mind blower. A story about relationships with a difference because one of the protagonists is a literal black hole albeit a rather selective one. Loads of ideas about relationships and perceptions but a strong narrative flow and an easy read in terms of text - the words aren't hard but what is being said takes some thinking about! Give it a go if you want something different.

Extract
If it was true that Lack would never take Alice, then my struggle with Lack wasn't for her body, but for her mind, her soul. It was a struggle I felt I hadn't a chance of winning. I sorted through long arguments in favour of myself and against Lack. I measured my love for Alice against hers for Lack. Which was craftier, which was more tenacious? I was sure I knew the answer.
