The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches by Gaetan Soucy

The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches

Gaetan Soucy

A suspenseful mystery where not everything is what it seems. The reader is gradually given titbits of plot that completely turn the novel on its head. Quite an uncomfortable read, very cruel and dark in places, but beautiful and enlightening in others. I felt quite relieved (emotionally) once I'd reached the end of it.

Extract
While I walked, I rememoried in bits and pieces what our life had consisted of to date, and what it would no longer be as everything passes here below, for instance the sound that papa made upstairs while he was doing his exercises, or when we all ate together and we tied a bib round our frog for a laugh and fed her flies, and the care that pap lavished on the Fair Punishment in the woodshed when he took it out of its box.
