Sixteen-year old Behiye feels completely fed up with her life and her family in Istanbul. A chance meeting with the very beautiful Handan seems to justify the sudden and uncharacteristic feeling that she will soon be rescued. But Handan has other commitments and desires and Behiye's plans for their future do not run smoothly. I'm not sure I completely understood this book (what links did the murders have to the main story?) but the interesting characters and the atmosphere captivated me.

Extract
The desire to weep doesn't bring on tears. It's been like this for so many years. The desire to weep, the desire that becomes a chronic annoyance to her during her distressed state, stops up the tears. A seriously plugged state. A plug. Stone. Being.
