The Elephant Vanishes by Haruki Murakami

The Elephant Vanishes

Haruki Murakami

Don't expect reality to behave itself in Murakami's short stories. Are we in a psychological dreamworld or an alternative world where illogical things simply happen? The parallels are there but they tend to bump into each other uncomfortably. Challenging but stimulating and satisfying in equal measure.

None of it makes any sense. Does everybody know about the TV People? Am I alone in the dark? Maybe the wife knew all about the TV People all along, too. Probably. I'll bet that's why she wasn't surprised by the television and why she didn't mention it. That's the only possible explanation. Yet this confuses me even more.
