Inheritance by Livi Michael

Inheritance

Livi Michael

I found this book very easy to read and yet it was full of quite complex emotions exhibited by Louise the main character - towards her dead mother, her dead boyfriend, her home town to which she returns after many years and towards her ancestors whose past she begins to research. It's a story of a modern day girl but you also get some fascinating historical detail thrown in too - two stories for the price of one really!

Outside the light is pale and pearly, and for a moment I stand watching the people come and go. The street could be that other street, I think. An old lady passes with a shopping trolley, children gather into a gang at the corner. Transient people, I think, and it comes to me then that time doesn't really move at all, that old moments keep recycling themselves.
