The fight had devolved into silence.  It was no longer about the credit cards or bank accounts but about the accusation I had just made.  How could I discuss him with Sama?  What had she said, he wanted to know.  Did I think Sama had told her mother?  It took weeks for things to return to normal, for the daily silent treatment and him sleeping on the sofa to come to an end.

Realizing that there was no point in asking him directly, I began exploring the possibility of finding out by myself.  I called the number on the back of the credit card, but they had told me that my card was a supplementary one, that my husband was right, I had no claims to any information.  I called again, pretending to be him, but it was impossible.  In the end, I began to believe that I was better off this way.  He didn't want to tell me, and I didn't want to know.
