Some great short stories here. The extract is from the one called Sky but they were all quite different with a wonderful sense of place and time. The collection has an old-fashioned almost period feel about it which I really enjoyed.

Extract
I wander around a bit while the plane is unloaded, delight in wading at the edge of the dark river, watching my toes turn red in the amber shallows and remembering many such rivers in my childhood ... I look out further into the river and spot a lone kingfisher gliding swiftly inches above the water, re-stitching the seam between river and sky.
