Prozac Highway

by Persimmon Blackbridge

An ultimately depressing read about depression, but relieved by some humour. The author's device for indicating flashbacks and the email chat make it interesting.

She hadn't forgotten she was over forty when she put on that outfit. She'd had two years of 'gee you don't look forty' to burn it into her brain. It was supposed to be a compliment but it wasn't a compliment, it was a threat. You couldn't be a rebel art girl at forty. You were supposed to have a teaching job, or a show in a museum, or disappear.
