For Whom the Ball Rolls

by Ian Plenderleith

A book for the boys with a common theme of the 'Beautiful Game'. Actually thats an exaggeration as there are some stories that don't mention football but even these characters might seem at home on the terraces.

I should ring Benny and tell him that I can't make it cos me mother's died, he thought, but could not imagine in what tone of voice he would say this. And wouldn't it seem odd that on the day your mother died you would have the presence of mind to phone someone up about something as trival as a football match? Not that Conrad thought the match was trival, but he knew how other people viewed the game of football, especially at the level of the Gulley Flats League.
