A Leaf Out of His Book by Penelope Shuttle

A Leaf Out of His Book

Penelope Shuttle

Here are poems not just about love, but about Cornwall, the weather, trees, herbs, myth, masks, fans and more. Some of the poems are given short footnotes explaining the source of certain quotations or the inspiration for the poem, which is helpful. A gentle and easy going collection of poems.

On my way home from school
I gathered leaves, my favourites,
acacia, elm,
laid them down at the foot of special trees,
it was comforting,
it felt right,
for I was taking a leaf
out of the green man's book
