Pyrrhus by Mark Merlis

Pyrrhus

Mark Merlis

Don't be put off by the way that characters from classical Greek literature have been transposed to the 1980s. You quickly get caught up in the life of Pyrrhus - a gay hustler - and his friends. This book is funny, erotic and extremely moving at the end.

Extract

It was into this parody of domestic life that Pyrrhus was born; in it he lived his formative years. If there are such years, if we aren't pretty much formed by the time we see light. For example, if Pyrrhus wasn't born a sissy, he certainly was one by the time his father first playfully wrestled with him, when he was two or three.
