The Beatrix Gates by Rachel Pollack

The Beatrix Gates

Rachel Pollack

A book which uses an analogous non-human scenario to explore attitudes and differences. Kara believes she has been born into the wrong body. She is a Red but believes and feels she is a Green. Kara is very unhappy and hates the life she is forced to live as a Red. To resolve the issue, she must make the perilous journey to the Beatrix Gates and pass through. Beautifully and sympathetically written. Not an easy read but very enlightening.

No, she thought with the clasp half-open. She’d rather die for real than run back to dead life. She refastened the cloak and stepped forward. The tiger and leopard leaped at her throat.
