Do the Right Thing by Shyama Perera

Do the Right Thing

Shyama Perera

A love match, apparently made in heaven, begins innocently enough. But when the couple set themselves god-like standards of honourable behaviour, appalling decisions are made. Albeit an old fashioned tale of stubbornness and pride this is a humorous and ultimately optimistic story. Easy to read with Perera's unfailing lightness of touch.

Suddenly the hum of conversation stopped. He turned around.

She was there in the doorway, in a green silk sari. The fog slowly started to lift. Blinking, he focused on her face.

She smiled, and Shyam felt as if the breath had been smashed out of him.
