Mail Order Bride by Mark Kalesniko

Mail Order Bride

Mark Kalesniko

This is a graphic novel telling an unusual story. Kyung comes from Korea as a mail order bride for Monty. Expectations on both sides are not met and the resulting story surprised me as the initial, and obvious, cultural differences shifted and became more complex.

Extract
'I read somewhere that men married to white women talk about their houses, cars, work, but not their wives. But men married to Asian women talk only about their wives. I'm one of those men, Kyung. All I want to do is talk about you.'
'Because you're married to me.'
'YES! You make me very happy and tomorrow I'm taking you out and showing you off to all my friends. I want them to see my beautiful Asian wife.'
