If you’re different school can be hell. This is a funny, tear-jerking, endearing, and simply written novel, featuring a boy with facial disfigurement as the aspirational hero. A strong sensitive message for those suffering social exclusion, although to be honest I did find it a bit too American sweet in places.
I think it’s like the Cheese Touch in ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’. The kids in that story were afraid they’d catch the cooties if they touched the moldy cheese on the basketball court. At Beecher Prep, I’m the old moldy cheese.
