Convenience Store Woman

by Sayaka Murata

The notion of belonging and the consequences of not conforming to the ‘norm’ form the backbone of this atmospheric and infectious read. The quirky central character has a childlike innocence that I found endlessly endearing. This is a good book to curl up with on a lazy afternoon, and with the absence of any chapters or page breaks, it is hard to stop reading!

When morning comes, once again I'm a convenience store worker, a cog in society. This is the only way I can be a normal person.
