The Orpheus Trail by Maureen Duffy

The Orpheus Trail

Maureen Duffy

An intriguing and satisfying thriller which is absolutely steeped in history and archaeology. I found the combination of ancient history and religion with a modern detective story fascinating and compelling - and it really made me want to revisit the British Museum!

Extract

'But why fire?' .... 'For the Persians it was the symbol of righteousness, of ultimate purity, and fire permeates all of creation, giving it warmth and life.'
But I could only see charred timbers and heat-twisted rails and somewhere beneath them a boy's soot-blackened body and smoke-shrivelled skin.
