The Dark Lord of Derkholm by Diana Wynne Jones

The Dark Lord of Derkholm

Diana Wynne Jones

A refreshingly light read with a dragon even more appealing than the one in Adriana Gabriel's 'Dragonheart'. If you rarely, even never, read fantasy try this one, and if you're an officianado - Terry Pratchett, eat your heart out. Ms Jones invented the flying pigs first!

Extract
Something glittered in the sand by Regin's boot. This time he did not pick it up. He put his toe under it and nudged it until he could see that it was a scrap of paper with one gold edge. Sure enough, it had written on it: be careful what you ask for: you may get it. He decided not to mention it to the others.
