Dig Yourself by Mikki Goffin

Dig Yourself

Mikki Goffin

Have you ever wondered what it's like to grow up in a run down London tower-block, with brothers and sisters by different men? To fall in love with what you perceive as a 'proper' family. To adore a boy who sees you as a mate? And in the end to grow up?

Extract

The rain eased slightly and I splashed the bike through the puddles, soaking my socks as I stamped about, kicking up dirty water and squelching through the whisked-up mud in my squidgy plimsolls. Just when I thought I couldn't get any wetter, a car came whizzing past, sloshing through a deep puddle by the kerb and sending up an enormous spray like a tidal wave that completely covered me in mud and rain. I was delighted.
