This was a real page-turner of a road trip. The terrifyingly plausible, post-apocalytpic collapse of American society turns the peril settings up to the max. Every time you think you can relax, something else lurches out of the shadows to challenge Taeya and Rick and keep them fighting for their lives whilst they gradually shifted from unwilling partners in crime to well-balanced partners in romance.

Thank God they were finally on the road. Rick let Sanchez drive. She was just as anxious as he was to get away from there, because she took the first bend in the road on two wheels. Twisting her mouth, she gave him one of those 'oops' grins. Then she eased back on the throttle.
