Days in the History of Silence

Merethe Lindstrom

Simon's descent into dementia forces his wife Eva to contemplate their long marriage and reflect on their secret pasts which they never shared with their children. Has this failure in some way caused Simon's present problems?
This is a beautifully written novel and Eva is totally honest about her past and makes a very convincing heroine. Great translation too. Highly recommended.

His silence came gradually over the course of a few months, half a year. He might say thanks for the meal or bye. He had become as formal as a hotel guest, seemingly as frosty as a random passenger you bump into on a bus.
