This novel is hewn from the land - the northern moors where the story takes place. Told in Hope’s first person dialect, we see the darkness and brutality she has experienced and committed. As an apocalyptic event strikes and she strives to survive, we question if she can find love and redemption at the end of the world. Leaning into folklore and history, this is a dark and disturbing story that you will not easily leave behind.
I must of fell asleep thinking on Bill, cause in my dream, against all best advice, I was trying to feel that rush I’d get when he kissed me, like he might kill me too. I remembered in that same dream a detail of his nails I’d forgot, always with blood lined in them, running over my naked body and scratching inside, and my own blood fresh drawn would mingle alive with with newly dead.
