Jackstraws by Charles Simic

Jackstraws

Charles Simic

I really liked this collection of poems by Yugoslav American Charles Simic. There is something surreal about them, which never allows you to anticipate where they will go. But they are not hard to read and they will strike many unexpected chords in your mind.

... You, yourself,
Must hurry back through the snow
Before they find your rightful

Place on the cross vacated,
The few candles burning higher
In your terrifying absence
Under the darkly magnified dome.
