The sun wasn’t brilliant and the sky wasn’t blue but a suffocating blanket of gray yellow haze. Dogs and cats hid under porches and trees. The trailers conducted the heat and cooked the flesh inside well-done. Though Addy was dizzy and vaguely sick to her stomach, she thought she could walk the long mile to the Sweet Freez and wanted to do it for Sharla.
