Ruth is born, raised and continues to live amongst the Brotherhood, a fundamentalist Christian community – a world without private property and rotas for everything from child-rearing to sewing. But contrary to what you might expect, Ruth isn’t a victim trapped in a joyless existence. Instead she questions everything and finds fun where other see duty. The result is a warm, immersive and amusing read which will challenge all preconceptions.
Each floor shared a kitchenette, a cleaning closet, and two bathrooms, their communal use and maintenance a constant opportunity for sisters to sin. Domestic crimes- an oven light left blazing overnight, tidal scum in a bathtub- tempted women to furore the way women tempted men to lust.
