Will walked out onto the girder they had just fused into place like a man walking out onto the diving board at a public swimming pool. Will could almost imagine that the girder would bend like a diving board beneath his feet and that it would twang with reverberations as his weight left it. He couldn't leave Isobel behind, though, not until every possibility had been exhausted.
