Backlash by Rod Duncan

Rod Duncan

Mo Akanbai is a police community relations officer who gets caught up in violent race-hate crimes in Leicester. Part police procedural, part thriller there are several plot twists to keep the reader guessing. For me though, I would have liked more about Mo's relationship with fellow policeman Paresh, who refuses to marry Mo since she's not Hindu. I found this as intriguing as the central 'mystery' of the novel.

I'd have expected racist pictures everywhere and Union Jack flags. Instead, there are twee posters on the wall, china dogs above the fireplace and a battery-driven pendulum clock that looks just like the picture in the Argos catalogue.
